In ulcerative colitis (UC), treatment goals have evolved beyond symptom control to include objective measures of disease activity, such as biomarker normalisation, endoscopic, etc.¹ These treat-to-target principles highlight the need for regular non-invasive assessment of symptoms and inflammation using tools such as faecal calprotectin and, where available, intestinal ultrasound (IUS).¹

Osteoporosis can be likened to a “reverse tumour”: a progressive bone disease marked by declining bone mass and density1. In Hong Kong, with its rapidly ageing population and world-leading life expectancy, the burden of osteoporosis only grows in concern2. Zuellig Pharma convened a scientific symposium gathering leading orthopaedic surgeons from Hong Kong and overseas, to illuminate the key role Forteo plays in fracture risk reduction and bone mineral density.

Apart from the chronic infections with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), the role of non-viral risk factors in the development of chronic liver diseases has attracted clinical concern. Particularly, the co-existence of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is increasingly common, and the associated impact has been recognized1. Nonetheless, the interplay between CHB and MAFLD has been poorly studied. To uncover the essence of managing CHB patients with co-existing MAFLD in local settings, Dr. Vincent Wong discussed the clinical challenges of the dual etiology of CHB and MAFLD and shared his opinions on optimizing the management of the disease.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has been reframed in recent years as metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) to emphasize its origin in cardio-metabolic dysregulation1. MASLD affects approximately 25% of the global population, with an even higher prevalence rate of 27% in Asia2. Importantly, MASLD is not just a liver problem—it represents a manifestation of the broader metabolic syndrome and carries significant cardiometabolic consequences3. At a recent symposium, Dr. Sollano reviewed the evolving therapeutic landscape in his lecture and highlighted the role of essential phospholipids (EPLs)— especially phosphatidylcholine—as a useful liver-supportive agent in real-world MASLD management, particularly where access to newer treatments remains constrained.

Despite the typically indolent nature of marginal zone lymphoma (MZL), treatment options for patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) disease have long been limited and largely extrapolated from broader indolent
non-Hodgkin lymphoma studies. Conventional chemoimmunotherapy, though effective, can be poorly tolerated in older or comorbid patients, while first-generation Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors like ibrutinib have been associated with off-target toxicities. This created a critical therapeutic gap for patients requiring prolonged treatment with manageable safety profiles. Zanubrutinib, a next-generation BTK inhibitor engineered for greater target selectivity and improved tolerability, has emerged as a promising solution. At a recent symposium, Dr. Chandramouli Nagarajan presented the findings of the MAGNOLIA trial, a pivotal phase II study that evaluated Zanubrutinib as monotherapy in patients with R/R MZL. By focusing on a real-world population, including elderly patients, the study offers compelling evidence for the role of Zanubrutinib in reshaping the treatment landscape of MZL.

At a recent webinar, Professor Dan Siskind, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, presented key recommendations from the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CINP)-endorsed International Guidelines for the Algorithmic Treatment of Schizophrenia (INTEGRATE).
