BY: Dr. Roy LauJun 24, 2020

With the increasing popularity of digital communication platforms, emoji has been used as a new language worldwide, conveying non-verbal communication cues and substituting for the face-to-face conditions. Essentially, emoji enables people from different countries to communicate in a standardised way and hence reducing language barriers. For instance, former study reported that emoji of smiley face displayed on handrub dispensers would reinforce hand hygiene behaviour. Hence, emoji would be a useful tool in future health education.
