DR. TERENCE TAM CHI CHUN

Specialist in Respiratory Medicine

Asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) are often said to be analogous to siblings, given their overlapping pathophysiology and inflammation pathways. On 13th December 2023, it was privileged to have invited Dr. Terence Tam Chi Chun to the dinner symposium, in which he elaborated on the pathophysiology, phenotyping, and novel approaches to managing asthma and its comorbidities, CRSwNP.

In the presentation, Dr. Tam highlighted the trends associated with type 2 inflammation, including higher severity, presence of eosinophilia, early onset and IgE components, and elaborated on the driving forces behind type 2 inflammation. Following the disease background, he moved on to the key trials of an IL-4Ra inhibitor in asthma patients, such as the QUEST and the VENTURE trials. Apart from asthma, Dr. Tam explained the interplay between asthma and CRSwNP and outlined the treatment algorithm recommended by GINA. At the end, he summed up his enriching presentation and held an interactive Q&A session with the participants.
